1. Why Do Social Issues Exist?

As we age, the amount of information we receive increases. When we hear that it will rain tomorrow, we prepare rain gear. If the news indicates that the political or economic situation is unfavorable, we take some form of action. Why do organizations such as countries, local governments, companies, and groups exist? It’s to understand our own existence. For example, if you find yourself in an authoritarian state, in a conflict-ridden region where survival takes precedence over economic activities, you would recognize that your existence is in a weak and dangerous situation. The problems we learn about are always there to help us recognize our own existence.

2. How Do Activities Like Elections and Fundraising Affect Society?

Activities that impact society, apart from making money, represent changes in one’s existence. For example, participating in a neighborhood cleanup might mean you are someone who values cleanliness and cooperation with others. It’s unclear whether such activities will bring about change in society. Regardless of the nature of the organization, we are only concerned with what is necessary for ourselves, so we constantly want to recognize our own existence. The joy comes not from the results or evaluations of our actions, but from the fact that we were able to speak and act based on our recognized existence.

3. What Is the World?

It’s not about the Earth, the universe, or any industry. It’s your own world―the world in which you are aware and exist. With the information you’ve gathered, you are free to create your own world. What you recognize, how you define your existence, how you act, and how you find joy―these are all completely up to you. It is, indeed, a world of love.

4. What Does It Mean to Change Yourself?

Changing yourself means expanding your awareness. It’s about viewing or thinking about one thing from more perspectives and angles. It’s about seeing what’s generally considered good as bad, or considering something you dislike as something good. Even if your awareness expands, it doesn’t mean that good things increase or bad things decrease. It simply means that your emotional reactions to events become less intense. You become more resolute, calmer, and less emotionally expressive.

5. What Is the Self?

The self is everything in the world. Your emotions, thoughts, and will are born from the information you’ve received from people, animals, plants, minerals, and objects in your world. It’s almost impossible to say that your actions and the results or evaluations of those actions were entirely your own doing. The self is a part of the world that is kept alive by the world and is made to act by the world.

6. What Is It That You Want to Do?

What you want to do is a demand from the world. Whether it’s wanting to express anger when irritated, trying to do something out of anxiety, or asking someone you like out on a date. What you do is what is most demanded by the world. Whether it’s war, crime, scientific inventions, or earthquakes, all actions, whether they involve social issues or personal troubles, are what the world demands most. The goal is to take comfort in recognizing that you’ve been able to expand your awareness and act accordingly, and to find joy in that.
